The phrase Begrüßung is the general term for every Greeting. We can use the following forms to greet someone:

Guten Tag! = Hello! (polite, formal)

Guten Morgen! = Good morning! (polite, formal)

Guten Abend! = Good evening! (polite, formal)

Grüß Gott! = Hello! (formal)

Hallo! = Hello! (informal)

Grüezi! = Hello! (informal)

Servus! = Hello! (informal)

Grüß dich! = Hello! (informal)

Auf Wiedersehen! = Good-bye! (polite, formal)

Tschüss! = Bye! (informal)

Pfiat di! = Bye! (very informal)

 

"Pfiat di" is used strictly among friends and family and is typical for the regions Austria and Bavaria.
